IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata men's volleyball team defeated rival Neumann in a 3-0 sweep on Wednesday evening.
John Bohrer led the Macs with 13 kills and 11 digs while
Joe Martell led the Macs with 31 assists and 11 digs.
Neumann jumped out to an early 5-2 lead over Immaculata to start set one. Immaculata then responded by going on a 7-1 run to take a 9-6 lead and did not look back. Though Neumann attempted to close the gap, Immaculata closed the door later, going on a five-point run after owning an 18-3 lead, securing the victory in set one by a final score of 25-15. Bohrer and
Jack Debes each recorded four kills on the set.
The Knights took a tentative lead to start set two, leading 3-1. Following some back-and-forth action, the Macs tied the game up at 9-9 before claiming the lead on a kill from Bohrer. Following a tie game at 10-10, the Mighty Macs began to separate from the Knights before claiming the set in a 25-17 victory.
Claiming a fast 6-2 lead in set three, the Macs set the pace early before the Knights took a short lead as the score stood 13-12. The Macs quickly regained the lead, keeping the Knights at bay to claim set three, along with the series sweep, by a score of 25-20.
On the game, the Macs outperformed the Knights with 39 kills to 15 for the Knights. Individually, Bohrer recorded 13 kills and 11 digs. Martell meanwhile continued to excel as the team's setter with 31 assists on the game along with 11 digs. The pair led the team with 11 digs each on the game.
The Mighty Macs will next return to action on Friday as they travel to Harrisonburg, Va. as they open Continental Volleyball Conference play with a match against Eastern Mennonite University.
