Macs Upset Cabrini in Overtime in Atlantic East Quarterfinals

RADNOR, Pa. – The Macs came from behind in an instant Atlantic East Tournament classic as they took down No. 4 Cabrini 89-86 in overtime on Monday. Dylan Crews forced the overtime period with eight points in the final minutes of the second half, scoring 17 points overall on the night.
 
After the first three minutes, the Macs and Cavaliers were tied up at 4-4. The Macs then took an 8-5 lead that would not last as the Cavaliers went on a six-point run to claim the 11-8 advantage just over six minutes into the contest. Keith Farmer then scored five points over the next three minutes as the Macs closed the Cavaliers' lead to 20-17. The Cavs, however, would slowly extend their lead as the Macs would find themselves down 39-32 at the half.
 
Keith Farmer led the Macs' offense on the first half, scoring nine points while Tyler Tillery contributed with eight points on the half. As a team, the Macs executed from the charity stripe, shooting 5-for-8 (62.5%) on the half.
 
Cabrini increased their lead over the first seven minutes of the second half, leading Immaculata 60-43 with 12:42 remaining in regulation. Over the next five minutes, freshman Dylan Crews spearheaded a 21-8 run, scoring seven points for Immaculata as Immaculata cut Cabrini's lead to 68-64 with seven minutes left in regulation.
 
Veterans Tyler Tillery, Gregory Vlassopoulos, and Asa Kitchen then combined for eight points as the forced a one-point ball game as the score stood 73-72 with 3:31 on the clock. Crews then handled the rest. Recording back-to-back three-pointers, Crews kept the Macs close as time began to expire. With 27 seconds left and down by two, Crews was fouled. Stepping up to the free-throw line, Crews sank both shots, tying the game up at 80-80 and forcing overtime.
 
Steven Dao and Tyler Tillery combined to score six points over the first two-plus minutes of the five-minute overtime period, giving the Macs an 86-82 lead. The Cavaliers then tied the game up with a pair of layups with 89 seconds left on the period. With one minute remaining on the clock, Tillery passed the rock to Vlassopoulos who connected on a jumpshot to give the Macs a two-point advantage.
 
With eight second remaining, Dao secured a rebound off an attempted layup by Cabrini. Crews then got the ball and was immediately fouled, forcing a return to the free-throw line. Crews sank the first shot, giving Immaculata a three-point advantage. Though Crews missed the final free-throw, Cabrini was unable to convert on a buzzer-beater three-point attempt as the Immaculata came out victorious 89-86.
 
Tyler Tillery led the Macs on both sides of the ball, dropping 20 points while adding nine rebounds, three assists, and three blocks on the night. Keith Farmer also dropped 18 points on the night while adding eight rebounds and three assists. Crews, meanwhile, scored 17 points while leading the Macs into overtime.
 
The Mighty Macs will next travel to Arlington, Va. as they face Marymount in the Atlantic East Semifinals. Their contest will take place on Wednesday, February 23rd. A full preview of the Macs' matchup with the Saints will be released on Tuesday.
