Women's Basketball Secures Two Seed in Win at Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, Pa. – The Mighty Macs women's basketball team closed out the regular season on Saturday as they defeated Centenary 86-47. The Macs now finish the season with a 15-8 overall record, going 8-4 in Atlantic East Conference play, securing the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Atlantic East Conference Tournament.
 
The Macs jumped out to an early lead against the Cyclones, scoring 10 points in the first four minutes of action for a 10-2 lead. The Cyclones then responded, scoring 14 points over the remainder of the first quarter as the Macs held an 18-16 lead at the end of the quarter. Theresa Kearney and Abigail Lentowski each scored four points on the first quarter for the Macs.
 
It took the Cyclones nearly five minutes to break through the Macs' defense in the second quarter as the Macs went on a 12-0 run to start the quarter. Now owning a 30-16 lead, the Macs continued to apply pressure for the remainder of the second quarter, entering halftime with a 20-point advantage at 43-23.
 
The Macs shot an impressive 18-for-36 (50.0%) from the field on the first half, including going 11-for-16 (68.8%) on the second quarter. Theresa Kearney led the way offensively for the Macs, going 4-for-7 from the field and scoring eight points on the half. Morgan Falcone, meanwhile, picked up five assists while adding five points on her own for the Macs.
 
After some back-and-forth action to kick off the second half, the score stood at 50-32 with just over five minutes remaining in the third quarter. Meghan Ricker then led the Macs on a 19-point rally, doubling the Cyclones' score at 69-32. Ricker dropped eight points on the run while Lentowski scored seven.
 
Up 69-36 to begin the fourth quarter, the Macs dropped 17 points on the quarter, wrapping up an 86-47 victory against the Cyclones.
 
Lentowski led the Macs offensively on the game, scoring 18 points over 20 minutes of action. Ricker then scored 16 points for the Macs while picking up a steal on the game. Reese Mullins, meanwhile, led the Macs defensively with nine rebounds while Falcone recorded seven assists.
 
With the victory, the Mighty Macs have clinched the second seed in the Atlantic East Tournament. The Macs will face a familiar foe in the first round as they host the seventh-seed Centenary on Monday, February 21st. A game-time will be announced tomorrow.
