Men's Basketball Recognizes Senior Class Against Marymount

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata men's basketball team honored its four graduating seniors on Wednesday as they dropped a close contest against Marymount 70-66.

The Mighty Macs honored seniors David Cade, Andre Allen, Asa Kitchen, and Brandon McCullough before the start of tonight's game. Despite an injury, McCullough was dubbed an honorary starter on the night, leaving the court to rousing applause.

After jumping out a quick 6-3 lead in the first two minutes, the Macs began to lose ground as the Saints owned an 18-10 lead over them just over seven minutes into the contest. The Mighty Macs, however, battled back, going on a 9-4 run led by Gregory Vlassopoulos who dropped five points on the rally. Allen also contributed with two points of his own. The Saints then began a rally of their own, going into the half with a 32-24 lead over the Mighty Macs.

The Macs went 10-for-22 (45.5%) from the field on the half including going 2-for-5 (40.0%) from beyond the arch. Vlassopoulos led the Macs individually on the half, scoring seven points and adding four assists. Tyler Tillery also contributed six points and one block while Keith Farmer recorded six rebounds on the half.

Despite an opening three-pointer from Vlassopoulos, the Saints scored nine straight points to hold the momentum to start the second half, claiming a 14-point lead over the Macs. The Mighty Macs spent a majority of the second half chipping away at the Saints' lead. With seven minutes to go, the Macs were within eight points at 57-49. Tillery scored nine points to aid the Macs in their comeback.

With two minutes on the clock, a free throw from Steven Dao brought the Macs to within three points of the Saints at 65-62. Unfortunately, the Macs would not be able to usurp the Saints, coming within one point of doing so in the final 15 seconds of action. The Saints make three successful free throws in the final 11 seconds of the contest to secure their lead as the Macs fell 70-66.

Tillery dropped 21 points to lead the Mighty Macs' offense on the night while Vlassopoulos scored 15 points and led the team with five assists. Keith Farmer, meanwhile, recorded 12 rebounds, three steals, and one block on the night.

The Mighty Macs will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Centenary for their regular season finale.
