SCRANTON, Pa. – The Immaculata women's basketball team locked in a first-round home game as they defeated Marywood 64-49 on the road on Monday. With the victory, the Macs move to a 7-3 record in Atlantic East Conference play.
In the first three minutes of action, the Macs jumped out to a 9-5 lead as
Theresa Kearney and
Erin Kelly combined for seven points. The Pacers, the went on a 6-0 rally over the next four minutes to claim a short 11-9 lead.
Reese Mullins and
Abigail Lentowski then combined for three free throws over the final two minutes as the Macs ended the first quarter with a 12-11 lead.
The first five minutes of the second quarter belonged to the Pacers, going on a 9-5 run to claim a 201-7 lead. The Mighty Macs, however, shut the Pacers down for the last five minutes of the first half as they went on a 13-0 rally, led by
Tessa Liberatoscioli who dropped five straight points in the final minute. Overall, the Macs posted 18 points on the second quarter as they owned a 30-20 lead at the half.
At the half, Kearney and Kelly led the Macs offensively with nine points each. As a team, the Macs shot 10-for-32 (31.3%) from the field as half of those shots were from beyond the arc (5-for-16).
Up 30-20 to start the second half, the Macs continued to apply pressure, scoring 11 points in first five minutes of the third quarter, jumping to a 41-23 advantage over the Pacers. The Pacers began to find their footing in the second half of the third quarter but could not gain much ground on the Macs as the score stood at 47-31 heading into the fourth quarter.
Immaculata then posted 17 points in the fourth quarter, preventing a Marywood comeback as Marywood scored 18 points on the quarter. Kearney scored five points on the quarter while
Abigail Lentowski contributed with four as the Macs claimed the 64-49 victory over the Pacers.
Kearney led the Macs on the day with 23 points and nine rebounds while adding one assist and two blocks.
Erin Kelly, meanwhile, dropped 10 points while adding eight assists and four steals for the Macs.
The Mighty Macs will next return to Alumnae Hall as they face off against Marymount in their final regular season home game. Prior to the start of the 6:00 P.M. contest, the Mighty Macs will honor their senior class.
