Macs Falter Late Versus Griffins

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata men's basketball team dropped their Monday evening matchup against Gwynedd Mercy in the final minutes as the Griffins defeated the Macs 92-88. Steven Dao earned a double-double on the night, scoring a team-leading 20 points and 10 rebounds on the night.
 
Gwynedd Mercy jumped out to an early lead, claiming a 17-7 advantage over Immaculata in the first eight minutes of action. Seven Immaculata players chipped over the next six minutes, however, to combine for 21 points to regain a 28-25 lead over Gwynedd Mercy. With under six minutes remaining in the first half, neither team gained any additional ground as Immaculata went into the half with the 41-38 advantage.
 
The Macs shot an impressive 16-for-17 (94.1%) from the charity stripe on the first half while going 11-for-25 (44.0%) from the field. Tyler Tillery led the Macs offensively on the first half, dropping 10 points while Dao picked up eight points on the half.
 
The Mighty Macs came out strong to start the second half, scoring 17 points in the first six-plus minutes to claim a commanding 58-43 lead. The Macs held onto the lead over the next several minutes, owning a 74-61 lead with 7:25 remaining in regulation.
 
Those final seven minutes, however, belonged to the Griffins. The Griffins executed on misplays from the Macs as they slowly cut down the Macs' advantage, taking a lead with under two minutes left and preventing the Macs from taking it back. Overall the Griffins outscored the Macs 31-14 over the final seven minutes of action to claim the 92-88 victory over the Mighty Macs.
 
Dao earned the double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Macs. Asa Kitchen, meanwhile, score 19 points and added a team-leading five assists and two steals.
 
The Mighty Macs will look to rebound on Wednesday as they host Marymount for their final regular season home game at 8:00 P.M. Prior to the start of the contest, the Macs will honor their senior class.
