Men's Basketball Falls to Defiance College in Overtime

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata men's basketball team was back in action Wednesday afternoon when they hosted Defiance College at Alumnae Hall. Immaculata fell to Defiance 70-69 in overtime.

In the first half Immaculata built an early 9-2 behind a pair of baskets from Tyler Tillery and a three-pointer from Gregory Vlassopoulos. Defiance would battle back to get with in one point with 12:31 remaining in the half. Immaculata would build the lead back to seven points on a jumper from Tim Schultice with 3:22 remaining in the half. Immaculata would take a 30-25 lead into the half-time break.

At the halftime break Gregory Vlassopoulos led the Mighty Macs with 13 points going 5-for-5 from the field and 3-for-3 from behind the arc. Tyler Tillery scored seven points and contributed two rebounds and three blocked shots.

In the second half Tim Schultice scored on a layup to put Immaculata up 38-27 with 16:02. Defiance would go on a 12-0 run to even the score at 42-42 with 11:46 remaining in the game. The Mighty Macs used a pair of layups from Brandon Perez to take a 46-42 lead. Keith Farmer put the Macs up by five with 2:48 remaining in the game. The Yellow Jackets would score the final five points to send the game to overtime tied at 57-57.

In the overtime period, Defiance jumped out to a quick lead on consecutive three-pointers around a layup basket from John Flood. Steven Dao scored on a jumper to tie the game at 63-63 with 1:34 remaining. Trailing by a point, Tyler Tillery put the Macs up 69-68 hitting a pair of free throws with 0:23 remaining. Defiance responded by scoring on a layup with 0:02 remaining to take the game by a score of 70-69.

The Mighty Macs were led by John Proctor who scored 14 points to go along with nine rebounds and two steals, and Gregory Vlassopoulos who scored 14 points with two rebounds and three steals. Tyler Tillery scored 13 points and added four rebounds and three blocked shots. Tim Schultice scored eight points and contributed eight rebounds and two steals.

Immaculata will be off for Christmas, then return to action on Friday, December 30th when they visit Swarthmore College for a 6:00 PM game.
