MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- The Immaculata women's basketball team was back in action this afternoon in their final game of the Cruzin Classic as they took on Spalding University. Immaculata fell to Spalding by a score of 61-57.
In the first quarter, Immaculata got off to a slow start as Spalding opened a 5-0 lead. Immaculata finally got on the board midway through the quarter on a layup by Abigail Lentowski. Immaculata used a pair of three-pointers from Morgan Falcone to climb back into the game. Immaculata took the lead with 0:16 remaining in the quarter on a layup by Abigail Lentowski. Immaculata carried a 13-12 lead into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, the two teams exchanged the lead before Spalding would open a five-point lead with 4:40 remaining in the quarter. Immaculata then got baskets from Francesca Scarpone, Morgan Falcone, and Olivia Ettorre to regain the lead at 24-23. Spalding would regain the lead and the game went to halftime with Spalding leading 29-26.
In the third quarter, Spalding would build their lead to 41-30 midway through the quarter. Immaculata would fight their way back into the game with a pair of three-pointers from Abigail Lentowski, and a three-pointer from Erin Kelly. In the final minute of the quarter, the Mighty Macs used a basket from Reese Mullins and a layup from Abigail Lentowski to get back to within four points at the end of the quarter, down 50-46.
For a second straight day, Immaculata would battle in the fourth quarter to remain in the game until the end. Down six, Reese Mullins pulled the Macs back into the game with a three-pointer with seven minutes remaining in the game. A pair of baskets, including a three-pointer from Abigail Lentowski pulled the Macs within two points late in the game. Down 57-55, the Macs had a shot to tie the game with 0:15 remaining, but Erin Kelly's attempt did not fall. Spalding held on to take the game 61-57.
Abigail Lentowski led the Mighty Macs with 19 points, including going 3-3 from behind the arc. Morgan Falcone scored 10 points and added six rebounds. Reese Mullins scored nine points and led the Macs with seven rebounds. Erin Kelly scored seven points and contributed two steals.
Immaculata women's basketball team will be off for the holiday break and will return to action on Wednesday, January 4th when they open Atlantic East Conference play when they visit Gwynedd Mercy University at 6:00 PM.
