GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa.- The Immaculata women's basketball team returned to action tonight as they visited Gwynedd Mercy University to open Atlantic East Conference play. The Mighty Macs, led by Abigail Lentowski who recorded a double-double defeated the Griffins 74-49.
In the first quarter, Gwynedd Mercy jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead. Immaculata came right back on a three-pointer from Erin Kelly. The teams would exchange leads before Tessa Liberatoscioli put the Macs up 11-10 with a layup. Reese Mullins extended the lead to 14-10 with a three-pointer of her own with 51 seconds remaining in the quarter. Immaculata held a 14-10 lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Abigail Lentowski took over the game for Immaculata, scoring 12 points in the quarter. Katelyn Racobaldo hit a three-pointer with 4:40 remaining in the quarter to give Immaculata a 22-15 lead. Immaculata would take a 34-20 lead into the halftime break.
In the third quarter, Immaculata extended its lead to 17 on an early three-pointer by Reese Mullins. Abigail Lentowski continued her strong play in the third quarter, going 7-8 from the free-throw line as Immaculata would carry a 52-33 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Reese Mullins got Immaculata started by hitting a pair of free throws following a technical foul on Gwynedd. Mullins would score the Macs first five points of the quarter. Gwynedd Mercy refused to go quietly in the fourth quarter, as they went on a 10-point run to close the score to 57-43 with 8:35 remaining. Immaculata broke the run on a layup by Abigail Lentowski. The Macs would go on to take the win 74-49.
Immaculata was led by Abigail Lentowski who recorded a double-double with a career high 28 points and 13 rebounds. Reese Mullins scored 17 points for the Macs, and Kaitlyn Racobaldo contributed nine points. Morgan Falcone had 11 rebounds for Immaculata.
The Immaculata women's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday, January 7th when they travel to meet Centenary University in an Atlantic East Conference game at 1:00 PM.
