IMMACULATA, Pa.- The game came down to the final seconds as the Immaculata women's basketball dropped their non-conference game to Alvernia on Saturday afternoon 49-48.
In the first quarter of Immaculata found themselves in a tough battle with Alvernia.
Reese Mullins and
Abigail Lentowski each scored four points for Immaculata in the quarter.
Tessa Liberatoscioli scored two points and recorded two steals as Immaculata lead 10-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter began in a back-and-forth battle as each time Immaculata built a lead, Alvernia would respond. With the Macs holding a 24-22 lead in the final minute of the quarter
Tessa Liberatoscioli got an offensive rebound and scored on a driving layup with five seconds left in the quarter to give the Macs a 26-22 lead going into the half-time break.
The Mighty Macs opened an eight-point lead at the mid-way point of the third quarter on lay up by
Reese Mullins. Alvernia battled their way back into the game.
Reese Mullins hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the quarter and Immaculata carried a 37-32 lead into the fourth quarter.
Kicking off the fourth quarter, the Macs increased their lead to 10 points thanks to points from
Abigail Lentowski,
Reese Mullins, and
Olivia Ettorre. The Golden Wolves continued to put pressure on the Macs and closed the score to 43-42 with 3:29 left in the game. Immaculata got points from
Morgan Falcone,
Reese Mullins and
Abigail Lentowski and lead 48-46 in the final minute.
Following a time out, Alvernia drew a foul on Immaculata with 3 seconds left in the game that sent Alvernia to the line. Alvernia made the first free throw but missed the second free throw. Immaculata was unable to get the rebound, and Alvernia got the ball and drew another foul with four seconds remaining. Alvernia hit both free throws to take a 49-48 lead with 1.3 seconds left on the clock. A last second shot was no good, and Alvernia held on to win 49-48.
Immaculata was led by
Reese Mullins with 17 points and eight rebounds, and
Abigail Lentowski with 13 points and 16 rebounds.
Olivia Ettorre scored five points, and
Morgan Falcone and
Tessa Liberatoscioli each scored four points.
Immaculata (3-2, overall) will be back in action on Monday, November 21
st when they travel to play at Eastern University at 7:00 PM.
