Mighty Macs Fall to Blue Jays

 

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata University Men's Soccer team fell 2-1 in tonight's matchup against the Elizabethtown College Blue Jays at Draper Walsh Stadium.

The first half saw lots of midfield play for the first ten minutes. In the 24th minute, Immaculata struck first with junior defender Joshua Phillips scoring the initial Mighty Mac goal on a double assist from both sophomore midfielder Michael Balestriere and senior forward Josh Fonder. On the defensive, Immaculata sophomore goalkeeper John Wilhelm tallied two close saves. In the last few minutes of the first half, Michael Balestriere was able to find a shot on goal set up by the defensive work from the Mighty Macs. Immaculata held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half.

The tide quickly turned at the start of the second half, with Elizabethtown tying the competition at one goal a piece in the 55th minute. Not long after in the 65th minute of play, the Blue Jays scored their second goal, taking the lead 2-1 against the Mighty Macs. Competitive play kept the remainder of the second half scoreless as Immaculata University fell 2-1 to the visiting Elizabethtown College.


The Immaculata University Men's Soccer team will travel to Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania this Saturday, October 8th, to take on the Gwynedd University Griffins for their first Atlantic East Conference match of the 2022 season.
