Men's Volleyball Splits Tri-Match Vs. Alvernia and Brooklyn

READING, Pa. – The Immaculata men's volleyball team split their tri-match against Alvernia and Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon. First, the Macs lost their match against Alvernia 3-0 before taking their set against Brooklyn 3-0. The Mighty Macs now close their opening week with a 1-2 record on the season.

The Macs dropped their first game set against Alvernia 25-19 after letting the Golden Wolves claim an early 6-2 lead. The Macs came back, coming within two at 19-17 but failed to complete the comeback as the Wolves outscored them 8-2 the rest of the set.

Alvernia ran away with an early 12-5 lead in set two, holding it to a 17-10 advantage before the Mighty Macs gained any traction. Unfortunately, it was too late as the Mighty Macs could not catch up in the 25-16 final score.

Set three, however, was a battle as the Mighty Macs found themselves with a 20-16 lead late in the set. Up 23-20, the Macs allowed the Wolves to come back, winning the set 29-27 to sweep the Macs.

Bryce Wiltbank, Garrett Pepper, and Joe Martell all led the Macs with six kills on the game while Martell led the Macs with nine assists.

Game two began with another close set as the Macs and Brooklyn Bulldogs went back-and-forth. With the score standing at 25-24, the Mighty Macs went on a three-point rally, executing off of the Bulldogs' mistakes to take set one by a score of 27-25.

The Macs went down early in set two with the Bulldogs owning a 17-9 lead over the Macs. Immaculata, however, went on a 16-2 point run to run away with game two, taking it by a final score of 25-19. Pepper earned three kills over the stretch to lead the Macs.

In set three, the Macs took a 14-10 lead and did not look back, preventing the Bulldogs from putting together a rally. The Macs secured their own sweep against the Bulldogs, taking set three by a score of 25-19.

On the game, the Macs were led by Garrett Pepper who recorded seven kills along with three aces and 11 digs. In addition, Joe Martell led the team with 14 assists while John Bohrer recorded four blocks.
