GLENSIDE, Pa. – Senior
Brandon McCullough made Mighty Macs history on Sunday as he tied the programs' career assists record with his 237
th career assist in the Macs' 88-60 loss versus the Arcadia Knights.
The Mighty Macs kicked off the contest by taking a 6-2 lead and did not quickly relent. Just seven minutes into the contest, the Macs put up 20 points to take an early 20-11 lead over the Knights.
Gregory Vlassopoulos led the Macs over that stretch with eight points scored including back-to-back three-pointers.
Arcadia, however, began to retaliate, scoring 15 points over the next seven minutes of action to take the lead from Immaculata at 26-25. With six minutes remaining on the half, Arcadia outscored Immaculata 16-3 to take a 42-28 lead heading into the half.
At the half, the Macs trailed the Knights in field goal percentage as the Knights shot 15-for-25 (42.9%) on the half while the Macs shot 12-for-24 (35.3%). Vlassopoulos' eight points led the Mighty Macs individually at the half while
Tim Schultice also scored seven points on the half.
The Mighty Macs defense allowed the Knights to score seven three-point shots in the first 10 minutes of the second half as the Knights continued to increase their lead. At the midway point of the second half, the Macs found themselves down 67-41, being outscored 25-13 on the half.
With just under 10 minutes to go in the second half,
Brandon McCullough snagged an offensive rebound before sending the ball over to
Keith Farmer to make a successful jump-shot. McCullough's assist, his third of the game, was the 237
th assist of his career, tying McCullough with Kyle Finklea for the most career assists in Immaculata men's basketball history.
Over the final 10 minutes of action, the Mighty Macs were outscored 21-19 as the Knights took the game 88-60.
Schultice led the Macs' offense with 14 points overall while also earning five rebounds and one assist on the game. Vlassopoulos posted 12 points of his own while also earning five rebounds, one assist, and a block. Freshman
Julian Steinbrenner, meanwhile, led the Macs with six assists on the game while scoring 10 points overall.
Immaculata will next begin Atlantic East Conference play on Wednesday, January 5
th as they host Marywood. The Mighty Macs' matchup with the Pacers is scheduled to start at 8:00 P.M.
