ASTON, Pa. – Theresa Kearney continued her climb up the career points ladder as the Mighty Macs dropped their away game against Neumann 86-74 on Wednesday evening. Kearney scored 16 points while junior
Morgan Falcone led the Macs with 21 points on the night.
The first quarter did the Mighty Macs in as they allowed 26 points alone in the first ten minutes. After four and a half minutes, the score stood at 8-6 before the Knights went on an 18-point run over the next ten minutes. Falcone finally broke the ice for the Macs with a three-pointer before concluding the first quarter down 26-9.
The Mighty Macs kept pace with the Knights for most of the second quarter but were unable to regain ground. Five minutes in, with the score sitting at 18-34, Kearney converted on a lay-up for her sixth point of the game, officially passing head coach
Chrissy Rhine (Esbensen) for the third most career points scored in Immaculata history. Going into the half, the Macs were down 46-27, unable to gain ground on the Knights.
At the half,
Theresa Kearney led the Macs with eight points scored while
Abigail Boyer and
Erin Kelly each scored five points for the Macs. As a team, the Macs shot 11-for-37 (29.7%) from the field on the half.
Immaculata began to find its footing against Neumann in the second half. Over the first five minutes of the third quarter, Immaculata outscored Neumann 12-6 to narrow the margin with Falcone scoring six of Immaculata's points. On the quarter, Neumann did recover for the final five minutes of the quarter as Immaculata entered the fourth quarter down 62-44.
Just like the third quarter, the Macs outscored the Knights 12-6 over the first five minutes of the quarter. Down 68-56 with five minutes remaining, however, would prove too much as the Macs dropped the contest by a final score of 86-74.
Falcone led the Macs in scoring with a season-high 21 points while also contributing with three rebounds, three assists, and one assist.
Erin Kelly also aided the Macs offensively on the night with 12 points scored and four assists on the night.
Kearney, meanwhile, led the Macs with seven rebounds and four steals on the night. Her 16 points solidify her place as the third-highest scoring student-athlete in Immaculata women's basketball history with 1,288 career points. Kearney now stands 42 points behind Mimi Taylor for the number two slot.
The Mighty Macs will return to action on Saturday as they host Centenary at 1:00 P.M.
