IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata men's volleyball team dropped their season opener against King's on Wednesday evening by a 3-0 score. The Macs dropped the sets by scores of 25-15, 25-13, and 25-21.
Set one begin in back-and-forth fashion as the Macs and Monarchs were tied at 8-8. Then, the Monarchs went on a 10-1 rally, taking an 18-9 lead over the Macs. While the Macs would attempt to rally back, they would not be able to close the gap as the score stood 25-15 as the Monarchs took set one.
Set two found the Macs down 13-10 before the Monarchs went on another rally, this time a nine-point rally, to take the 22-10 advantage before taking the set 25-13.
Despite falling to an early 9-4 deficit, the Mighty Macs would not go down without a fight in set three. The Macs managed to come within one point of the Monarchs at 16-15 and would not cede any ground. Unfortunately, a four-point rally would prove enough to give the Monarchs the victory as they claimed a 25-21 win against the Macs, securing the series sweep.
Garrett Pepper led the charge for the Macs, recording nine kills and one ace on the night.
Joe Martell, meanwhile, led the Macs with 16 assists and seven digs while
John Carter also accrued seven assists for the Mighty Macs.
The Macs return to action on Saturday as they travel to Reading, Pa. for a tri-match against Alvernia and Brooklyn College.
