LANGHORNE, Pa. - The Immaculata women's volleyball team secured their first victory of the season in comeback fashion against Cairn University on Saturday. Finding themselves down 2-0 early (25-20, 25-19), the Mighty Macs rallied to take sets three, four, and five (25-20, 25-16, 15-13).

After dropping the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-19, the Mighty Macs found themselves with their backs against the wall heading into set three. Down 3-2 in the early stages of set three, Immaculata began to push back, going on a four-point rally including an ace from sophomore
Isabella Ridgell.

The Mighty Macs and Highlanders would continue to exchange blows for the remainder of the third set, with the Mighty Macs coming out on top 25-20. Sophomore
Ava Thorley led the Mighty Macs offensively in the third set, racking up four kills and one service ace.

With momentum on their side, the Mighty Macs jumped to an early lead in set four thanks to consecutive aces from sophomore
Emily Ettien. After giving up a point to the Highlanders, the Mighty Macs went on a 16-1 rally taking a demanding 18-2 lead. Cairn attempted to rally back but could not recover from the early deficit as the Mighty Macs forced a fifth set with a score of 25-16. Ridgell earned three kills and one ace for the Mighty Macs while Thorley earned four additional kills.

The Highlanders took an early lead in set five, going on a 4-0 rally out of the gate. Immaculata rallied back to a 4-3 deficit before giving the ball back to Cairn. Later, the Mighty Macs found themselves down 7-5 before going on a three-point rally on serves from junior McKenna Ryan, earning an 8-7 advantage. With the match tied up at 13-13, the Mighty Macs took the advantage on a kill from sophomore
Julianna Rotondo.
Isabella Ridgell then earned the match-winning kill following a serve from
Isabelle Davis as the Mighty Macs secured the come-from-behind victory.

The Mighty Macs' offense was led by the sophomore contingent of
Isabella Ridgell,
Ava Thorley, and
Emily Ettien. Ridgell recorded 12 kills on the day with three aces and nine digs. Meanwhile Thorley earned a team-leading 15 kills on the day while accruing 22 digs. Ettien led the Mighty Macs with five aces and 36 assists. Defensively, junior
Isabelle Davis led the Mighty Macs with 34 digs on the day.

Immaculata (1-1) will return to action on Wednesday, September 8
th as they travel to Penn State-Harrisburg. Their match against the Nittany Lions is scheduled to start at 7:00 P.M.
