IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata field hockey team returned home on Thursday evening seeking to avenge a hard fought road setback at the hands of Albright on Wednesday night. Immaculata battled throughout but fell the No. 4 Nationally-ranked Cougars by a final of 3-0.
In the first quarter of play, Kean applied steady pressure to the Immaculata defense throughout the frame but Immaculata led by freshman goalkeeper
Julia Levase who made five important saves withstood the Kean attack and kept the game scoreless heading into the second quarter of play.
In the 20
th minute, Kean broke through as Jordan Thompson finished a rebound following a shot from Laura Stump to give the Cougars an early 1-0 lead. This proved to be the only goal of the first half of play as Kean carried a slim 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
At the half, Kean held an 18-0 edge in shots while also holding an 8-0 advantage in corners. Levase turned in a strong first half effort, making 10 stops to keep the potent Cougar offense at bay throughout the opening two periods of action.
In the 38
th minute, Kean extended its lead as Ja'Carra Jackson on an assist from Thompson to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead midway through the third period of play. In the 45
th minute, Thompson scored her second goal of the contest off assists from Krista O'Grady and Lia DiPiazza, which stretched the Kean lead to 3-0 heading into the fourth and final quarter of play.
Kean ended the contest with a 28-0 advantage in shots and a 16-0 advantage in penalty corners.
Levase ended the contest with 13 saves to limit the potent Kean offensive attack.
Immaculata will continue its homestand on Saturday afternoon against Ramapo with that contest set to begin at 1 p.m.
