IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Mighty Macs women's' volleyball team kicked off the 2021 season on Thursday night with a 3-0 loss against the Cedar Crest Falcons.
The Macs found themselves down 15-11 halfway through the first set. With sophomore
Isabella Ridgell serving, the Macs went on a five-point rally, taking a 16-15 lead. The Falcons would later, however, match the Mighty Macs' rally with their own seven-point rally as the Mighty Macs fell 25-20 in the first set.
After finding an early 3-1 lead, the Mighty Macs were unable to string a run together in the second set while Cedar Crest continued to apply the pressure as Immaculata lost 25-15. Despite taking a 5-3 lead, the Mighty Macs dropped set three 25-13 as the Falcons secured the sweep.
Sophomore
Ava Thorley led the charge offensively for the Mighty Macs with eight kills on the day along with nine digs and one assist. Junior
Emily Ettien earned a team-leading 11 assists on the day.
Defensively, Ridgell led the charge with 14 digs. Junior McKenna Ryan and Sophomore
Julianna Rotondo also recorded 12 digs each.
Immaculata will hit the road for their first away game of the season on Sunday against Cairn University. Their match against the Highlanders is scheduled to start at 11:00 A.M.
