IMMACULATA, Pa.- After cruising to a 4-0 victory over Valley Forge in midweek action, the Immaculata men's soccer team continued its homestand on Saturday afternoon against non-league foe in Goucher. Immaculata battled throughout the game but it was an early second half goal by Goucher which made the difference as the Gophers escaped with a 1-0 victory over the Mighty Macs.
In the first half, Immaculata and Goucher each threatened to open the scoring taking 10 and eight shots, respectively but the defenses proved to be up to task as Immaculata goalkeeper
Garrett Pepper and his Goucher counterpart, Jeff Castro, each made a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless heading into the halftime break.
In the second half, Goucher scored the first goal of the contest in the 57
th minute when Gus Dalzell found Ali Kazim Nakid on a cross into the box to give the Gophers the early 1-0 lead. Trailing 1-0 late in the second half, Immaculata nearly scored the equalizer off the foot of freshman Matt Kirkpatrick but the shot missed just high over the crossbar to keep the Macs off the scoreboard.
Following this near miss, Goucher stiffened defensively and was able to hold the Macs scoreless for the remainder of the contest to escape with the 1-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.
