Field Hockey Cruises to Road Victory over Bryn Athyn; Carlin Scores a Pair

BRYN ATHYN, Pa.- Following a setback at home against Widener on Tuesday evening, the Immaculata field hockey team returned to action on Thursday evening against another non-league foe in Bryn Athyn College. Immaculata applied steady offensive pressure throughout the game and scored five first half goals, which allowed the Macs to earn their second win in their last three attempts over the Lions by a 6-0 final.

Immaculata opened the scoring just minutes into the first half as Theresa Cerruti found the back of the cage in the 8th minute to give Immaculata the early 1-0 lead.

Immaculata extended its lead just over 30 seconds later when Sophia Carlin scored her the first of her two first quarter goals to extend the lead to 2-0 with 6:30 to play in the opening period. Carlin added another goal just under one minute later, which further extended the Macs advantage, making the score 3-0 in favor of the Mighty Macs. Lauren Vandenbraak provided an assist on each of Carlin's two goals before registering her third assist of the night on Ryann Shemeley's second quarter tally.

Gabby Greco capped off the Macs first quarter scoring with a tally of her own off an assist from Lauren Buckel in the 15th minute to give Immaculata a commanding 4-0 lead heading into the second quarter.

In the second quarter of play, Shemeley got in the on the scoring with a goal of her own in the 20th minute to give the visiting Mighty Macs a 5-0 lead before the halftime break.

After continuing to pressure the Lions for much of the second half, including a 7-0 advantage in shots during the third quarter, the Mighty Macs scored their sixth goal of the contest in the 55th minute to claim a 6-0 lead, which they would go on to win by.

Immaculata ended the game with a 28-0 advantage in shots and a 19-0 advantage in shots on goal while also ending the contest with a 12-0 edge in penalty corners.

Julia Levase, Ashley Finkbiner and Grace Gauld shared the time in between the pipes for Immaculata on Thursday evening, with none of the three goalkeepers facing a shot en route to the victory.

Immaculata will be back in action on Saturday morning against Lancaster Bible in game one a tripleheader inside Draper Walsh Stadium with that contest set to begin at 11 a.m.
