IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata men's soccer team returned to action on Wednesday evening against the University of Valley Forge in search of its first victory of the season after playing to a draw opposite Cairn on Saturday afternoon. Immaculata opened the scoring early and never looked back en route to a 4-0 shutout victory over Valley Forge.
In the seventh minute, Immaculata opened the scoring as
Zachary Malcolm finished a cross from Josh Phillips to give the Macs the early 1-0 lead. In the 31
st minute, Immaculata capitalized off its continued pressure with its econd goal of the afternoon as
Reed Lindsay netted his first collegiate goal off an assist from fellow newcomer
Dylan Roberts to extend the Macs lead to 2-0.
Lindsay added another goal in the 35
th minute off an assist from
Oldy Dielce following a free kick from the top of the box, which extended the lead to 3-0. Immaculata stretched its lead to 4-0 in the 41
st minute when
Michael Leshko found the back of the net off an assist from Lindsay to give the hosts a comfortable four-goal lead heading to the halftime break.
In the second half, Immaculata continued to apply steady offensive pressure but the Patriots defense was able to thwart Immaculata and keep the score locked at 4-0 throughout the second half of play.
Freshman goalkeeper
Ryan Straub earned the start and victory for Immaculata on Wednesday afternoon making one save in his collegiate debut before
John Wilhelm entered in relief and made one save of his own to preserve the shutout. For Valley Forge, Troy Billingslea and Abner Gabriel Camacho split the duties in between the pipes making four saves each while Billingslea was charged with all four goals.
Immaculata ended the contest with a gaping 34-4 advantage in shots and a 18-0 advantage in corner kicks, which was pivotal in earning the victory over Valley Forge on Wednesday afternoon.
Immaculata will be back in action at home on Saturday afternoon opposite non-league rival Goucher.
