Field Hockey Falls to Widener in Midweek Clash

IMMACULATA, Pa.- Following an impressive 1-0 victory over previously unbeaten King's on Saturday afternoon, Immaculata remained home on Tuesday evening to host another non-conference rival in the Widener Pride. Immaculata battled throughout but fell to Widener by a final score of 4-0.

In the first quarter, Immaculata applied pressure early but it was Widener who would open the scoring as Erin Callahan shot from a low angle from the left side of the goal to give the Pride the 1-0 lead heading into the second quarter of play.

In the second quarter, Widener quickly extended its lead with another tally in the 17th minute to grow its lead to 2-0 over the Mighty Macs. Widener added another tally before the halftime break to extend its lead to 3-0 after the opening 30 minutes of action.

In the third quarter, Widener out possessed Immaculata for much of the stanza but the Immaculata defense stood tall and kept the Pride off the scoreboard to keep the score locked at 3-0 in favor of the visitors entering the fourth and final quarter of play.

In the fourth quarter, Widener scored again in the 53rd minute to claim a 4-0 lead, which it would never relinquish en route to the 4-0 victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Julia Levase ended the night with 12 saves to slow the potent Widener offense.

Widener outshot the Macs by a 25-2 margin while also ending the game with a 24-1 edge in penalty corners.

Immaculata will be back in action on Thursday afternoon on the road at Bryn Athyn.
