Men's Soccer Plays to a Draw vs Cairn; Dielce Scores a Pair

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata men's soccer team continued its homestand on Saturday afternoon as the Macs welcomed a former conference rival in the Cairn University Highlanders to Draper Walsh Stadium. Oldy Dielce scored a pair of goals for the Mighty Macs but Cairn was able to answer, which allowed the Highlanders to escape with a hard-fought 2-2 draw on a beautiful September afternoon inside Draper Walsh Stadium.

In the 11th minute, Oldy Dielce scored his first goal of the campaign on a breakaway to give the Macs an early 1-0 lead over the Highlanders. Cairn answered back with a goal its own in the 27th minute as Jesse Brittain evened the score after successfully evading an Immaculata defender at the top of the box. Cairn grabbed the lead moments later in the 34th minute when Josh Goodyear scored off an assist from Moses Beers, which allowed Cairn to carry a slim 2-1 lead into the halftime break.

In the first half, Immaculata held a 10-4 edge in shots and a 6-3 edge in shots on goal. Immaculata and Cairn also ended the half even at three corners a piece.

Garrett Pepper got the start in goal for Immaculata once again on Saturday afternoon making one save through the opening 45 minutes of action while his counterpart Kameron Clark made five saves of his own in the opening half of play.

In the 63rd minute, Dielce scored his second goal of the contest in a similar manner to how he scored his first to even the score at 2-2 near the midway point of the second half.

In the closing moments of regulation, Immaculata had numerous strong scoring opportunities but it was a strong team defensive effort from Cairn, which kept the game locked at 2-2 and forced overtime to decide a victor.

After a scoreless first overtime, Immaculata generated an excellent scoring opportunity in the final minutes of the second overtime session as Dielce nearly scored the game-winner before earning Immaculata a free-kick opportunity at the top of the box. The free kick was blocked by the Highlanders wall but Immaculata took a shot off the rebound that was narrowly saved as Cairn held off the Immaculata offense to escape with a 2-2 draw against the Mighty Macs.

Immaculata ended the contest with a 23-18 edge in shots and an 11-7 advantage in shots on goal. Pepper ended the night with five saves while his counterpart Clark made seven saves while backup goalkeeper Chris Eleman made one save in relief of Clark.

Immaculata also ended the contest with a commanding 11-4 edge in corner kicks in the draw.

Immaculata will be back in action on Monday evening at Lancaster Bible with that contest set to begin at 7 p.m.
