RADNOR, Pa.- On Tuesday afternoon, the Immaculata men's tennis team will play for a Conference Championship for the first time since the 2017 season in search of its first Conference Championship in program history. The match, which will be played at the Dixon Tennis Courts on the campus of Cabrini University is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
In the Conference semifinals last Thursday evening, third-seeded Immaculata vanquished second-seed Gwynedd Mercy on the road by a final of 5-2 after sweeping doubles competition and capturing first and second singles to knockoff the Griffins. This appearance is the Macs first Championship match appearance since the end of the 2017 season and also marks the first time in school history in which the Immaculata men's and women's tennis squads played for a Conference Championship during the same season (the Immaculata women's team is set to face Marywood at home on Wednesday afternoon).
Should Immaculata capture both the men's and women's team Championships on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, the Mighty Macs would be the first Atlantic East school to accomplish this feat. Prior to the formation of the Atlantic East, the last team to complete this accomplishment was the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins at the conclusion of the 2015-16 seasons.
Cabrini, who is the top-seeded team in the Atlantic East Tournament, enters the Championship match coming off a 5-0 victory over Marywood in the semifinals, which saw the Cavaliers sweep doubles action before capturing the fifth and sixth singles spots to return to the Championship match once again in 2021.
Immaculata and Cabrini met earlier this season in what was the final match of the season and senior day for the Mighty Macs. In this match, Immaculata captured third doubles and sixth singles but Cabrini prevailed in the match by a final of 7-2 to complete an unbeaten regular season for the Cavaliers.
