GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa.- For the first time since the end of the 2017 season, the Immaculata men's tennis team has advanced to the Conference Championship match following a 5-2 victory over No. 2 seed Gwynedd Mercy this afternoon in the Atlantic East semifinals.
Immaculata jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the match with a sweep of the doubles action as
Jason Watts and
Michael Chartier took first doubles by an 8-1 final while
Matt DeHaut and
Nicholas John took second doubles by an 8-6 final with
Jeremy Brown and
Kevin Lyons winning their third doubles match by an 8-5 final.
In singles action, Gwynedd Mercy attempted to battle back registering victories in the third and fourth singles spots but Watts was able to capture first singles 6-0, 6-0 while Chartier took his second singles match 6-4, 6-4 to lift Immaculata to the 5-2 victory and return the Macs to the Conference Championship match.
Immaculata will play for a Conference Championship against top-seed Cabrini in the Atlantic East Championship match on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
