Women's Soccer Defeats Wesley in Season Opener

DOVER, Del.- The Immaculata women's soccer team took to the road on Thursday evening for its season opener at Wesley. Immaculata defeated Wesley by a final of 2-1 off the strength of a goal late in the second half of play.

This victory extends the Macs opening-game winning streak to three years in a row, while also running the Macs opening-game unbeaten streak to four in a row dating back to a 1-1 draw with PSU-Brandywine to open the 2017 season.

Immaculata scored the first goal of the game and its first of the season when Julia Schumacher took an assist from Kristen Guthier to give the Macs a 1-0 lead. Wesley was able to answer back with a goal of its own near the midway point of the second half, which evened the score at 1-1. Immaculata found the back of the net again in the late stages of the second half as Jessica Gindle scored her first collegiate goal to lift the Macs to a 2-1 road victory over the Wolverines to open the 2020 season.

Between the pipes, Brooke Shissler played well for the Macs making 11 saves on the night to help limit the potent Wolverine offense in the Mighty Mac victory.

Immaculata will return to action on Sunday afternoon vs Cabrini with that contest set to begin at 1 p.m.
