Men's Lacrosse Drops Away Match Against Neumann 23-8

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Mighty Macs men's lacrosse team lost a rainy contest as they faced off against Neumann on Wednesday night 23-8. Steven Long scored three goals for the Mighty Macs as they drop to 1-3 overall with an 0-2 record against Atlantic East opponents.
 
The Knights took control quickly, scoring a goal 35 seconds into the game. They would go on a nine-goal spree during the first quarter, with the Mighty Macs finding themselves down 9-0 through the first quarter.
 
Following two goals by Neumann to kick off the second quarter, Immaculata broke the ice when Steven Long scored on quick breakaway off of an assist from Sean Evans with seven minutes to go in the second quarter. Neuman then scored with three minutes to go, putting their lead to 12-1 heading into halftime.
 
Neumann went on a 10-goal rally for much of the third quarter. With under three minutes left in the quarter, Immaculata broke the rally as Evans scored on an assist from Anthony Inserra. Neumann scored one final goal in the third quarter, putting their lead at 23-2 to start the fourth quarter.
 
The Mighty Macs began to rebound in the fourth quarter, preventing Neumann from scoring again while going on a six-goal rally. First, Inserra scored two goals within 36 seconds of each other. Jackson Fonseca-Webb notched an assist on Inserra's second goal. Then, with eight minutes to go, Will Reeder connected for a goal off an assist from Evans.
 
Immaculata would then score three goals in rapid succession. First, Long scored off an assist from Inserra. Then, 27 seconds later, Inserra picked up another assist on a goal from Bobby Bausman. 17 seconds later, Long scored another goal with an assist coming from Evans. Overall, the three goals spanned 44 seconds of play. The three goals would wrap up the scoring on the day for the Mighty Macs as they fell to Knights with a final score of 23-8.
 
Immaculata lost the turnover battle versus Neumann 23 to 8. The Mighty Macs, meanwhile, were 12-for-23 on clears and 16-for-34 on faceoffs.
 
Inserra led the way for the Mighty Macs' offense, recording five points on two goals and three assists. Long scored three goals for the Mighty Macs on 16 shots, six of which were on goal. Bausman recorded a team-high 10 ground balls and went 15-for-33 on faceoffs.
 
Immaculata will return to action next Wednesday as they travel to Scranton, Pa. to face off against Marywood. The match is scheduled to start at 4:00 P.M.
