Metzger Ties Single-Game Save Record in Setback to Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa.- The Immaculata men's lacrosse team returned to the field on Wednesday afternoon for an Atlantic East battle on the road against league-rival Marywood. Immaculata and Marywood battled throughout the game in what was a low-scoring affair as the two teams combined for just 10 goals but despite outscoring its guests 3-1 in the second half, Immaculata fell by a final of 6-4.

Marywood scored the first goal of the contest near the midway point of the first quarter to carry a slim 1-0 lead into the second quarter. Immaculata responded with its first goal of the game 11:27 to play until halftime when Jackson Fonseca-Webb buried a man-up goal to even the score at 1-1.

Marywood closed the first half on a 4-0 run thanks in large part to a pair of goals in a 48 second span to carry a 5-1 lead into the halftime break.

In the third quarter, Immaculata scored a pair of goals as Steve Long found the back of the net twice with 7:20 and 1:21 to play in the third, respectively, which sent the game to the fourth with Immaculata trailing by just two (5-3).

In the fourth quarter, Marywood scored its final goal of the contest with 8:56 to play to reclaim a narrow three-goal lead making the score 6-3 in favor of the Pacers. With 1:33 to play in regulation, Sean Evans scored off an assist from Mac Fraylor to cut the deficit to 6-4 in the closing moments of regulation.

Cole Metzger had an outstanding day in goal for Immaculata as he made 28 saves, which tied Andrew Sim's 2006 single-game record in the setback.

As a team, Marywood outshot Immaculata by a 51-34 margin including a 34-13 advantage in shots on goal. Immaculata did win 8-of-13 faceoffs behind a strong performance from Bobby Bausman, however, Immaculata did commit 31 turnovers as the Macs were also successful on just 20-of-34 clear attempts in the loss.

Bausman also ended the contest with the team lead in both caused turnovers (4) and ground balls (13) while Anthony Inserra and Fonseca-Webb each registered six ground balls in addition to their offensive contributions.

Immaculata will return to action on Saturday evening vs Gwynedd Mercy with that contest set to begin at 6 p.m. inside Draper Walsh Stadium.
