Men's Lacrosse Falls to Cabrini in Atlantic East Opener

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata men's lacrosse team returned home for its Atlantic East opener on Saturday afternoon against No. 8 Cabrini. Immaculata battled throughout but a strong first half from Cabrini allowed the Cavaliers to register a 23-2 victory over Immaculata on Saturday afternoon.

In the first quarter, Cabrini opened the scoring early scoring its first goal with 13:52 to play in the first quarter. From this point, Cabrini scored six more goals over the course of the next seven minutes to claim a 9-0 lead heading into the second quarter of play.

In the second quarter, Cabrini scored the first three goals to extend its lead before Immaculata answered back with a goal from Trey Rorer off a feed from Anthony Inserra to make the score 12-1. Cabrini closed the half on a 6-0 run, which enabled the Cavaliers to carry an 18-1 lead into the halftime break.

In the third quarter, Cabrini added another four goals to further extend its lead and claim a 23-1 advantage heading into the fourth and final quarter of play.

In the fourth quarter, Immaculata trimmed its deficit again as Sean Evans took an assist from Jackson Fonseca-Webb to cut the deficit to 23-2. This tally proved to be the only goal of the fourth period for either side as the Immaculata defense behind a six-save effort from Matt Kirkland, stiffened to slow the potent Cabrini offense.

Cole Metzger earned the start in goal for the Macs making nine saves in the first half of play before exiting in favor of Kirkland who registered 14 saves over the course of the second half to help slow the Cabrini offense.

As a team, Immaculata was outshot by a 62-19 margin overall and a 46-8 margin in terms of shots on goal. Cabrini also ended the contest with a 42-28 edge in ground balls and a 17-12 edge in the faceoff battle.

Immaculata will return to action on Wednesday, March 31 on the road against Neumann.
