IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Mighty Macs men's volleyball dropped both halves of a double-header on Saturday against Kean University. Immaculata went 3-0 in match one losing by scores of 25-17, 25-11, and 25-15. The Mighty Macs were also swept in match two, going 25-13,
The Mighty Macs were down 9-6 early when they went on a five-point rally, taking an 11-9 lead in set one. After exchanging blows, the match was tied at 15-15 when Kean went on a seven-point spree of their own, securing a strong lead that Immaculata could not overcome. The Mighty Macs dropped set one 25-17.
Immaculata found themselves down 10-0 in set two before scoring a point. They eventually lost game two by a 25-11 final score.
In set three, Immaculata was tied with Kean 3-3 early on. Then, the Cougars went on an 11-3 point rally, creating a strong 14-6 lead. Immaculata attempted to make a come-back, but failed to catchup as they dropped set three by a final score of 25-15, dropping match one by a 3-0 margin.
Garrett Pepper led the game one efforts for Immaculata, leading the team with four kills, four digs, and one ace.
Joe Martell, meanwhile, notched seven assists while
Jack Debes earned three blocks.
In set one of match two, the Mighty Macs were trailing the Cougars by three points when the Cougars went on a seven-point rally that started on a service error. Following the rally, the Mighty Macs were down 18-8. Immaculata could not overcome the deficit and dropped the match 25-13.
Immaculata was down 10-9 in set two of the second match before Kean went on an 8-2 run, reaching an 18-11 lead before an Immaculata timeout seized their momentum. The Mighty Macs attempted to rally after, but the Cougars matched them blow for blow as the Cougars won set two by a 25-16 margin.
The Mighty Macs took an early lead in set three, going 4-1 to start the round. They maintained the lead to 12-9 when the Cougars went on an 11-1 rally, only broken up by a service error. Now down 20-13, the Mighty Macs could not get a rally going of their own as the match ended, dropping the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
Martell accumulated 17 assists during the second match, leading the Mighty Macs. Pepper led the team in game two with seven kills, with
John Bohrer right behind with six of his own. Pepper also led the team with six assists on the match.
Immaculata will return to action next Saturday, March 27
th, when they travel to Rutgers-Newark for a two-game set starting at 2:00 PM.
