ASTON, Pa.- The Immaculata women's volleyball team (0-1) took to the road on Friday night for its season-opener against longtime rival Neumann (1-1). Immaculata battled throughout the evening but fell to Neumann by a final of 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-7).
In the first set, Immaculata jumped out to an early 10-6 lead before Neumann countered with an 11-0 run to claim a 17-10 lead in the late stages of the set. Immaculata worked to fight its way back into the set outscoring its hosts 9-8 over the remainder of the set but Neumann was able to escape with a 25-19 first set victory.
In the second set, Neumann jumped out to the early 13-7 lead before Immaculata countered with a 13-6 run of its own to claim a 20-19 lead late in the second set. Immaculata and Neumann traded points for the remainder of the set but it was a 4-0 run by the Knights to close the set, which gave Neumann a 25-21 second set victory and 2-0 lead in the match.
During the third set, Neumann again jumped out to an early lead claiming a 13-5 advantage over Immaculata at the midway point of the third set. Neumann used this early advantage to register a 25- third set victory over the Macs, which also gave the Knights the 3-0 match victory.
Making her collegiate debut,
Isabella Ridgell led the way for the Macs with four kills while
Aly Lowe and freshman
Emily Ettien tied for the team lead in assists with five helpers each. Ridgell also led the Macs in service aces, registering four while
Sara Desmond chipped in three of her own. McKenna Ryan ended the match tied for the Macs team lead in digs along with MJ Cadman who recorded four digs of her own in the opening night setback.
