IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata field hockey team returned to action on Friday afternoon to host Wesley in its second of two home games on the year. Immaculata used a strong three-goal first half performance to earn a 3-1 victory over Wesley and improve to 1-2 on the year.
In the first quarter, Immaculata and Wesley each generated scoring opportunities throughout much of the quarter. Immaculata eventually capitalized with 23 seconds to play in the first quarter as
Maddy Edwards buried a loose ball in front following a penalty corner to give the Macs a 1-0 lead heading to the second quarter.
In the second quarter, Wesley responded with a goal of its own to even the score at 1-1, however, this did not last long as Edwards scored her second of the game off an assist from
Lauren Vandenbraak in the 19
th minute to reclaim a 2-1 lead. In the 27
th minute, Immaculata scored again when
Shannon Lozier took a pass in front from
Lauren Buckel to extend the Macs lead to 3-1.
Randie Kuhar had a strong first have making eight saves in the first 20 minutes to limit the Wolverine's offense.
In the third quarter, Immaculata and Wesley each generated chances but the Mighty Mac and Wolverine defense were up to the task as neither team could find the back of the cage, thus, sending the game to the fourth quarter with the Macs leading 3-1.
In the fourth quarter, the Immaculata and Wesley defenses continued to stand tall as neither offense was able to break through in the final quarter of play as Immaculata cruised to the 3-1 victory.
Kuhar ended the game with 10 saves while
Nicole Vigna added a defensive save of her own in the second half to keep Wesley off the scoreboard. Kuhar's counterpart, Wesley goalkeeper Lauren Berry also played well for the Wolverines making seven big saves of her own in the setback.
Immaculata and Wesley will face off again on Sunday afternoon at Wesley with that contest set to begin at 1 p.m.
