Mighty Macs Defeat Moravian 69-53

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata women's basketball team overcame an early deficit as they defeated Moravian 69-53 on Wednesday evening. The Macs now improve to 4-1 on the season while the Greyhounds drop to 1-5 on the season.
 
Moravian jumped to an early 5-0 lead after scoring on their first two possessions against Immaculata. Moravian increased its lead over Immaculata to 9-3 with four minutes remaining in the first quarter before Immaculata began to gain traction. In the final four minutes of action in the quarter, Immaculata outscored Moravian 8-6 to narrow Moravian's lead to 15-11 at the end of the first quarter.
 
The Mighty Macs continued to narrow the playing field heading into the second quarter. A three-pointer by Morgan Falcone tied the game up at 19-19 with just over four minutes remaining in the quarter. A three-pointer by Ava Casale became the difference-maker as the Mighty Macs took a 25-23 lead over the Greyhounds heading into the half.
 
Offensively, the Mighty Macs were led in the first half by junior Jordan Rook who scored eight total points and recorded three rebounds on the half. As a team, the Macs were neck-and-neck with the Greyhounds in field goal percentage as the Macs were 9-for-29 (31.0%) to the Greyhounds' 9-for-27 (33.3%). Meanwhile, the Mighty Macs owned a strong lead from beyond the arc shooting 6-for-13 (46.2%) versus the Greyhounds' 2-for-7 (28.6%).
 
Heading into the second half, the Macs took control quickly, scoring 16 consecutive points to start the second half. Morgan Falcone led the charge by dropping seven points for the Macs, recording back-to-back steals as well. The Greyhounds broke the ice over four minutes into the half to stop the Macs' streak, dropping a three to make the score 41-26. The greyhounds attempted to rally back in the final five minutes of the quarter, but the Mighty Macs matched them blow-for-blow, maintaining a 49-36 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
 
Falcone kicked off the fourth quarter with a three-pointer as Immaculata looked to shut Moravian down. Immaculata found Moravian threatening a comeback in the final minutes of action, cutting the lead to 11 at 64-53. From that point on Immaculata shut Moravian out as the score stood at 69-53 at the final buzzer.
 
Rook dropped 19 points on the night to lead the Macs offensively while recording seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Falcone, meanwhile, led the Macs with three three-pointers on the night while earning 17 points overall, her first double-digit performance on the season. Falcone also led the team with four assists while earning four rebounds and two steals on the night.
 
Katlyn Racobaldo led the Mighty Macs defensively, recording 12 rebounds on the night while also earning five points. Meanwhile, graduate student Theresa Kearney recorded 10 points on the night. Her 1175 career points now places her 14th in Mighty Macs' program history.
 
The Mighty Macs will return to action next on Saturday as they host Penn State Abington for a 1:00 P.M.
