IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata women's cross country is set to compete in the NCAA Regionals on Saturday, hosted by Rowan University.
The Mighty Macs recently earned second place in the Atlantic East Championship.
Emma McNamee placed fourth overall on the race for the Mighty Macs while
Nicole Wheeler finished in eighth overall.
"Between the conditions and who they competed against, to finish runner up in the Atlantic East for the first time was phenomenal," said head coach
Patrick Riley. "And then to have two athletes earn All-Conference with two more just missing All-Conference by one or two spots was a testament to how they've trained all year and how they focused on what they wanted to accomplish."
McNamee and Wheeler earned Atlantic East All-Conference First And Second Team honors, respectively.
Maura Leardi and
Abigail Sprock narrowly missed Second Team All-Conference honors, placing 15
th and 16
th overall on the race. The Macs were then joined by
Peyton Hays,
Catherine Haas, and
Emily McGonigle, who earned 21
st, 23
rd, and 24
th place, respectively.
"Going into NCAA Regionals, our goal is to compete at the highest level that we can compete. There's a lot of teams that we have not competed against. The NCAA Regional is an extremely important race. For most of the athletes competing, this is the biggest race they will ever compete in at this level. So, I'm stressing to my athletes that they need to stay focused, have confidence in how we've competed all year, and to go attack this race with the best of our ability," concluded Riley.
