IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata men's cross country is ready to compete in Saturday's NCAA Regionals hosted by Rowan University.
The Macs return to the course after a program-high third place finish at the Atlantic East Championship two weeks ago.
"This is the first time the men's team has ever placed third in a conference meet in program history," discussed head coach
Patrick Riley. "I'm extremely proud of how they've competed. Moving forward, as a young squad, we need to continue to grow not only in advance of this weekend but in the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons as well to make next season even better than this one."
Ivan Zavala-Zavala finished in eighth place overall in his freshman year appearance in the Atlantic East Championship.
Kieran Brackin was the second Immaculata runner to finish, earning 17
th place overall. He was then followed by
Nicholas John Speakman-Viggiano, who earned 20
th place.
Alex Poli, Gabriel DeRosa, and
Marchello Barile closed out the race for Immaculata, earning 23
rd, 24
th, and 29
th place, respectively.
"Going into NCAA Regionals, our goal is to compete at the highest level that we can compete. There's a lot of teams that we have not competed against. The NCAA Regional is an extremely important race. For most of the athletes competing, this is the biggest race they will ever compete in at this level. So, I'm stressing to my athletes that they need to stay focused, have confidence in how we've competed all year, and to go attack this race with the best of our ability," concluded Riley.
