Armas and Dielce Score as Men's Soccer Defeats Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, N. J. – The Immaculata men's soccer team took a 2-0 victory over Centenary on Saturday as they improved to a 2-0 record in Atlantic East Conference play.

Three minutes into the match, the Mighty Macs had a corner kick opportunity. Zachary Malcolm took the corner, sending it into the box where freshman Matthew Armas sent it home for the early 1-0 lead.

The score remained 1-0 in an otherwise even first half. The Macs and Cyclones were tied in shots with six each including four on goal.

In the second half, the Mighty Macs continued to apply offensive pressure onto the cyclones. With eight additional shots on the half, the Macs could not get the ball into the net again until the 79th minute. Sean Franks fed a through ball to Oldy Dielce on a breakaway as he beat the keeper to score, giving the Macs the 2-0 lead. The Mighty Macs would hold onto the lead for the final 11 minutes, securing the victory.

Dielce led the Mighty Macs offensively, scoring one goal coming off the bench on three shots. In net, senior Garrett Pepper recorded his third consecutive shutout, notching six saves on the match.

The Mighty Macs will return to action on Tuesday as they host conference rival Cabrini in a 4:00 P.M. matchup.
