IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata women's volleyball team dropped their match against Penn State Berks on Tuesday night in three sets.
The first match found the Mighty Macs down 9-3 early against the Nittany Lions. After a kill by
Julianna Rotondo secured the ball for the Macs, McKenna Ryan notched two saves in three serves to bring the Macs within two of the Nittany Lions. The Nittany Lions, however, would maintain the lead for the duration of the match as they won set one with a score of 25-20.
In set two,
Isabella Ridgell put together back-to-back aces to give Immaculata an early 6-5 lead. Immaculata increased the lead to 10-7 before Penn State begin to strike back. Penn State tied the set up at 13-13 at the beginning of what would be a 12-point run for Penn State. Penn State would win the set by a score of 25-15.
The Mighty Macs failed to string together a series of successful points in set three until the score was 22-11 in favor the Nittany Lions. While the Macs did then put together a four-point rally, they did not receive another chance after as the Nittany Lions took set three 25-15, securing the series sweep.
Defensively, the Macs were led by
Ava Thorley who recorded 18 digs on the match.
Emily Ettien led the Mighty Macs offensively with 14 assists on the match. Ryan and Ridgell also collected two service aces each on the match.
The Mighty Macs will set out to start Atlantic East Conference play tomorrow night as they travel to Neumann. Their match against the Knights is scheduled to start at 7:00 P.M.
