SCRANTON, Pa. – The Immaculata field hockey team dropped their match against Marywood 5-1 on Wednesday night. Freshman
Ryann Shemeley scored the lone goal for the Mighty Macs.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Pacers scored their first goal of the match in the 24
th minute as Mackenzie Hoats scored on an assist from Sami Abbinanti.
At halftime, the Macs were outshot 18-1 as the Pacers maintained a strong offensive presence. At the half, freshman
Julia Levase recorded 10 saves in goal for the Macs.
Marywood added two goals in the second half as Cydney Lahr and Abbinanti scored within two minutes of each other to increase Marywood's lead. Abbinanti then scored again four minutes into the fourth quarter.
Down 4-0, Shemeley scored in the 57
th minute on an assist from
Lauren Vandenbraak as the Mighty Macs broke the ice. A goal with 44 seconds left, however, would make the final result 5-1 in favor of Marywood.
Shemeley and
Gianna Gatto each recorded one shot on goal on the night for the Mighty Macs. Levase, meanwhile accrued 11 saves in 45 minutes of action on the night for the Macs.
The Mighty Macs will return to Draper Walsh Stadium next Wednesday, October 27
th as they conclude the regular season with a match against Cedar Crest. Prior to the 4:00 P.M. start, the Macs will honor the 2021 senior class.
