MAHWAH, N.J. – The Immaculata women's volleyball team competed in a tri-match against Lehman and Ramapo on Saturday, splitting their two matches. First, they defeated Lehman 3-0 before losing to the host Ramapo 3-0.
The Mighty Macs first match of the day came against the Lehman Lightning. The Mighty Macs jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead against the Lightning in set one and did not look back, defeating the Lightning 25-10 in set one.
Set two began with another 4-0 lead for the Mighty Macs. After dropping the next point, the Macs went on a 13-3-point spree to take a commanding 17-4 lead over the Lightning. The Macs would win the set 25-6 on a service ace from
Emily Ettien.
The Mighty Macs owned a 17-2 lead in the third set before the Lightning found any traction. It would, however, not be enough as the Macs took set three 25-6 to secure a 3-0 sweep.
The Macs' services were on point throughout the match as they served a combined 25 service aces on the match. Ettien led the team with six aces while
Devyn Crowder had five aces.
Immaculata then went on to face the host Ramapo Roadrunners for their second match of the day. After some early back-and-forth action, Ramapo took control of set one, owning a 17-7 lead at one point. The Macs attempted to mount a counterattack but could not close the gap as the Roadrunners took set one 25-17.
Ramapo went on an early run in set two to take an early 9-1 lead. The two teams went back-and-forth for the remainder of the match as Ramapo maintained the eight-point lead with a 25-17 final in set two. Set three would find the Mighty Macs unable to maintain service possession as the Roadrunners won match three 25-14, completing the 3-0 sweep over the Mighty Macs.
Ava Thorley led the Mighty Macs offensively against Ramapo, earning seven kills and one ace on the match. Ettien continued to fair well as the setter, leading the Macs with 17 assists on the match.
The Mighty Macs will return to action on Tuesday as they are set to host Penn State-Berks for a 6:30 P.M. matchup.
