IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata women's volleyball swept Rosemont College on Monday night with scores of 25-19, 25-14, and 25-17 on the match. The Mighty Macs now improve to a 5-9 record overall on the season.
The Macs found themselves up early in set one as they rallied to an early 11-2 lead. The Raves then went blow-for-blow with the Macs until the score reached 20-12. A kill from
Isabella Ridgell got the ball back for the Macs. Ridgell would then lead a four-point rally including two service aces to bring the score to 24-12. A last-minute run by the Ravens threatened but the Macs put set one away with a 25-19 victory.
Set two went much the same way for Immaculata as the team took a quick 8-2 lead. Later, senior
Julianna Rotondo recorded three consecutive kills to increase Immaculata's lead to 13-5. Rosemont, meanwhile, could not put together a rally as Immaculata took set two 25-14.
After taking a 9-5 lead in set three, the Mighty Macs began to lose control of the set. The Ravens took advantage by taking a 17-14 lead over the Macs looking to make a comeback.
Isabella Ridgell and the Mighty Macs, however, had something different in mind. After an attack error by the Ravens gave the ball back to the Mighty Macs, Ridgell stepped up for her turn to serve and refused to give the ball back to the Ravens. Ten services later, Rotondo and
Emily Ettien each recorded two kills while Ridgell picked up another service ace as the Macs walked off with a 25-17 decision in set three for the overall sweep of the Ravens.
Rotondo recorded 14 kills on the match to lead the Mighty Macs offensively. Ettien, meanwhile, earned 30 assists on the night. McKenna Ryan also led the Mighty macs with five aces and 15 digs on the night.
The Mighty Macs will return to action on Wednesday night as they host Marywood in Atlantic East Conference play. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 P.M.
