Macs Lose Despite Three-Goal Lead Over Saints

IMMACULATA, Pa. – It was a long, rainy match as the Immaculata men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaking match against Marymount on Saturday 5-4. With the loss, the Mighty Macs drop to a 4-9-1 record overall with a 2-2 record in Atlantic East Conference play.

Due to inclement weather in the area, the match began in what would be a 50-minute rain delay before beginning at 4:20 P.M.

The Mighty Macs dominated throughout the first half as they took a 3-0 lead heading into the half. First, Chad Catalana scored in the 11th minute while Justin Hahn recorded the assist. Josh Fonder then got in on the action with a goal off an assist from John Bohrer. Zachary Malcolm then concluded the half's festivities with a goal in the 44th minute, assisted by Oldy Dielce.

Six minutes into the second half, Leonardo Torres scored to get the Saints on the board, cutting the Macs' lead to 3-1. Just under a minute later, however, Justin Hahn scored on an assist from Fonder to resecure the Macs' three-goal lead.

As the second half progressed, however, torrential rain continued to engulf the field as the Immaculata defense began to show cracks. Just 29 seconds after Hahn's goal, the Saints rebounded with one of their own to make the score 4-2.

Then, 11 minutes later, Kevin Cassinera scored, cutting Immaculata's lead to one. One minute later, in the 66th minute, a foul in the penalty box broke up a Marymount rush, resulting in a penalty kick. Torres scored his second goal of the day, the equalizer, as Marymount tied the match up at 4-4. Two minutes later, Torres completed the hat trick as Marymount took a 5-4 lead.

The Saints maintained their lead over the final 20 minutes of play as the rain continued to drench players and spectators alike. On the match, the Saints outshot the Mighty Macs 18-11.

The Mighty Macs are on the road next as they travel to Neumann for a 6:30 P.M. match this Wednesday.
