Gatto Notches Goal and Assist in Loss Against Cabrini

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata field hockey team lost a hard-fought battle against the Cabrini University Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon. The 4-2 loss drops Immaculata to 4-13 overall with a 1-4 record in Atlantic East Conference play.
 
The Cavaliers broke the ice first in the 12th minute as Caroline Gallagher scored to give the Cavaliers the 1-0 lead. Then, just under seven minutes into the second quarter, Olivia Sims scored to increase the Cavaliers' lead over the Mighty Macs to 2-0.
 
At halftime, down 2-0, the Mighty Macs were being outshot 17-2 as the Cavaliers' offense continued to press.
 
Two minutes into the second half, however, Immaculata struck back. Ryann Shemely scored on assist from Gianna Gatto as Immaculata cut its deficit in half at 2-1. Unfortunately, Cabrini scored 17 seconds later to regain its two-goal lead.
 
As the fourth quarter began, Gatto scored at goal here own at the 37:06 mark to bring Immaculata within one goal of Cabrini. Cabrini would, however, score once more as Immaculata dropped the match 4-2.
 
On the day, Gatto recorded one goal and one assist on three shots to lead Immaculata offensively. Meanwhile, freshman goalkeeper Julia Levase recorded another double-digit save performance in net with 13 saves.
 
The Macs are on the road next on Wednesday as they travel up to Marywood with a 4:00 P.M. matchup against the Pacers.
