ORLANDO, Fl.- The Immaculata women's tennis team returned to the courts early on Monday morning to square off against Division II foe Shippensburg in a non-league match. Immaculata swept doubles, which under the Division II rules awards one point before winning four of the six singles matches to cruise to a 5-2 victory on Monday morning.
In doubles play,
Caleigh Masterman and
Elizabeth Lipscomb took first doubles by a final of 6-0 while
Annamarie Degnan and
Morgan Jacob captured second doubles by a final of 6-3. In the third doubles spot,
Kelly O'Brien and
Jessica Dougherty took care of business as well winning 6-1 to give Immaculata a 1-0 lead in the match.
In singles play, Masterman cruised to a first single victory by a final of 6-0, 6-2 while Jacob dropped her second singles match 5-7, 4-6 to make the score 2-1. Degnan captured third singles 6-2, 6-1 while Lipscomb battled in the fourth singles spot to win the spot by a final of 6-1, 2-6, 10-8. At fifth singles, Dougherty won the first set 6-2 before falling 3-6, 8-10 to drop her match to her Shippensburg foe while O'Brien took sixth singles easily winning her match 6-0, 6-2 to give Immaculata the 5-2 victory.
Immaculata will return to the court tomorrow evening vs Ithaca with that match set to begin at 7 p.m.
