DOVER, Del.-Seeking to halt a four-game skid, the Immaculata women's basketball team took to the road on Saturday afternoon to square off against Atlantic East foe Wesley. Despite trailing for much of the first half, Immaculata dominated in the second half limiting its hosts to just 13 points over the final 20 minutes of regulation en route to a 70-41 victory over Wesley on Saturday afternoon.
Theresa Kearney entered play in need of just 42 points to join the 1,000-point club, which she took a significant chunk out of scoring 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting while also pulling down eight rebounds in the victory.
Brielle Rigo also played well for the Macs in this contest as she ended her afternoon with 19 points and seven rebounds in the victory.
After scoring the first two baskets of the game over the opening four minutes of play, Wesley used the early momentum to claim an 11-4 lead with just 2:20 to play in the first quarter. Immaculata and Wesley traded baskets over the final 2:20 to carry a 15-7 lead into the second quarter.
During the second period of play, Immaculata earned its first lead of the contest taking a 16-15 lead with 7:17 to play in the half following a layup by
Brielle Rigo to cap a 9-0 run by the Macs to open the quarter. Despite this lead, Wesley ended the second quarter with a slim 28-24 lead.
In the second half, Immaculata came out strong and used a big third quarter run that saw the Mighty Macs outscore their hosts 31-2 to claim a 55-30 lead heading to the fourth and final quarter of play. The fourth quarter saw Immaculata continue to control play as Immaculata widened its lead to 66-36 (30 points) with 4:06 to play en route to the 70-41 victory.
As a team, Immaculata shot 42.9 % from the field and 23.8 % from beyond the arc in the victory while also shooting 55 % from the charity stripe.
Katelyn Watson ended the contest as Wesley's leading scorer with nine points in the setback while SherVonhia Tolson came away with a game-high nine rebounds in the loss.
Immaculata will return home on Wednesday evening to face Neumann beginning at 6 p.m. in the first game of a two-game homestand for the Mighty Macs.
