HARRISONBURG, Va.- Immaculata suffered a tough 3-0 setback against Eastern Mennonite on Saturday afternoon. The Macs dropped the games by the scores of 25-20, 25-18, and 25-16 to fall to 0-2 in CVC action
In the first set, Immaculata jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held a 10-8 lead in the early parts of the set. The Royals responded with an 8-1 run to take a 16-11 lead on its way to a 25-20 win in the opening set.
Eastern Mennonite used a 9-2 run to take an 11-6 lead to start the second set. Immaculata chipped away at the defecit and trailed 15-12 following a pair of service aces by Garrett Pepper. The Royals ended up keeping the Macs at bay by limiting Immaculata to its worst hitting percentage of the game and won 25-18.
In the third set, Immaculata showed fight and tied the set eight after a kill by Pepper. The Royals proved to be too strong and answered with a 4-0 spurt and never relinquished the lead on its way to a 25-16 win to clinch the match.
Pepper led the Macs with five kills as RJ Ubowski added three kills in the setback. John Carter had a team-high seven digs while John Bohrer and and Ubowski each had two blocks at the net.
Immaculata returns home to Alumnae Hall on Tuesday to face Widener at 7 p.m.
