IMMACULATA, Pa- The Mighty Macs returned home to Alumnae Hall and suffered a tough 3-1 setback against Widener in non-conference action. Immaculata was able to win the first set 25-21 but fell (25-21, 15-25, 22-25, 16-25).
Garrett Pepper led Immaculata with 10 kills while Patrick Zeoli had a career-high six kills in the setback. Pepper registered a triple-double and had 15 digs to go along with 10 assists. John Carter and John Bohrer had 14 and 10 digs respectively for the Macs (1-5).
Ian Devore led Widener (3-2) with 16 kills as Wil Cacciatore joined him in double figures with 10. Josh Matchett dished out 34 assists from his setter position. Â
Immaculata jumped out to a hot start and led early in the first set. The Mighty Macs used a hitting percentage of .139 to win the first set 25-21. Immaculata held Widener to a team-low .091 in the opening set.
Widener responded with a strong second set to level the match at one. The Pride tallied 14 kills in the set and limited Immaculata to only four kills in the 25-15 set win.
The Pride and Mighty Macs went back and forth in the tightly contested third set. The Macs trailed early on but fought back and evened the match back at 20. The Pride rallied and pulled out a tough 25-22 win to take a decisive 2-1 lead.
Widener jumped out to a quick advantage in the fourth set looking to clinch the match. With the Pride leading 14-13, Widener went on a 7-0 run to take control at 20-13. Widener went on to win 25-16 to hold on for the 3-1 win.
 Immaculata returns to CVC action and plays Neumann on Friday at 7 p.m. from Alumnae Hall.
