BUENA VISTA, Va.- On the heels of its first victory in program history on Saturday afternoon, the Immaculata men's volleyball team took to the road on Friday evening for the first of a two-day roadtrip to Virginia to open CVC play with a match at Southern Virginia. Despite battling throughout the match, Immaculata fell by a final of 3-0.
In the first set, Immaculata jumped out to a 9-5 lead before Southern Virginia scored four of the next five points to trim the deficit to 10-9, which would prove to the Macs final lead of the opening set. Southern Virginia outscored Immaculata 16-8 to close the set with a 25-18 first set victory.
To open the second set, Southern Virginia and Immaculata split the first four points to remain tied at 2-2 before the host Knights countered with a 13-2 run to claim a commanding 15-4 lead in the second set. Southern Virginia closed out the second set with a 10-4 run to win the set by a final of 25-8 and claim a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, Southern Virginia used an early run to claim a quick lead en route to a 25-14 third set victory, thus, giving the host Knights a 3-0 match victory over the Mighty Macs.
Garrett Pepper and
John Bohrer ended the match with two kills each while
Donte Ramos registered five assists and three digs.
Immaculata is back in action tomorrow afternoon at Eastern Mennonite with that contest set to begin at 1 p.m.
