PHOENIXVILLE, Pa.- The men's basketball team capped off non-conference play by scoring a season-high in points with a 95-77 win over Valley Forge on Tuesday evening. Nine different players scored in the win as the team made a season-best 39 baskets.
Jordan Ambrose continued his hot shooting and led the Macs (8-12) with 26 points while Brandon McCullough was right behind him with 24 points and a career-best 11 assists in the double-double. Jake Strycharz joined the duo in double figures with 11 points while Murad Preston chipped in with a season-best eight points.
Valley Forge came out strong to start the game and led Immaculata 13-4 with 14:23 left in the first half. The Patriots connected on three triples to hold an early advantage.
Valley Forge kept the Mighty Macs at bay for the next four minutes and built its lead to double digits, beating the Macs 24-11 at the midway point of the half. Immaculata finally hit their groove and went on a 17-2 run spanning nearly five minutes of game play to take a 28-26 lead with 5:13 left before the half.
They went on to take a strong hold on the game with an 11-1 run heading into the locker room. McCullough spearheaded the run by scoring or assisting on nine of the 11 points to propel Immaculata to a 42-32 lead at halftime.
The Mighty Macs would keep its foot on the petal in the second half and never relinquished the double digit lead. Immaculata went on a 9-3 run as they led 60-43 with 14:52 left in the game. Immaculata would lead by as much as 26 in the second half as it went on for the 95-77 win.
As a team, Immaculata shot 54-percent from the field and went 22-for-35 (63-percent) in the second half. The team used great ball movement with 22 assists and outscored the Patriots 21-8 in transiton.
The Mighty Macs return to Atlantic East action on Saturday with a road trip against Wesley at 3 p.m.
