Men's Lacrosse Edged by Hood in OT Thriller

FREDERICK, Md.-The Immaculata men's lacrosse team returned to action on Saturday afternoon on the road at non-conference foe Hood. Despite holding a late lead and being tied at the end of regulation, the Immaculata men's lacrosse team fell by a final of 11-10 in overtime to drop to 0-2 on the year.

Cole Metzger and Sean Evans scored the first two goals of the contest in the opening moments to stake Immaculata to an early 2-0 lead before Hood responded with four goals to claim a 4-2 lead early in the second quarter. Steve Long used an assist from Evans with 10:23 to play in the opening half to trim the deficit to 4-3 before Hood answered with another goal to stretch its lead back to 5-3 late in the second quarter. David Azzarano was the next Mighty Mac to turn a feed from Evans into a goal but hood was able to counter with another tally to carry a 6-4 lead into the halftime break.

To open the second half, Long and Evans each found the back of the net off assists from Anthony Inserra and Long to even the score at 6-6 before Evans added another goal with 7:44 to play in the third quarter to reclaim a 7-6 lead. Hood scored its lone goal of the third period with 3:30 to play in the stanza before surrendering another goal to Immaculata in the closing seconds of the quarter to allow the Macs to carry an 8-7 lead into the fourth quarter of action.

To open the fourth quarter, Hood began the scoring before Evans countered with another two goals off assists from Azzarano to give Immaculata a 10-8 lead, which would prove to be its final lead of the contest. Hood countered with two more goals in the closing moments of regulation to force overtime before scoring the game winner with 1:47 to play in the extra session to defeat Immaculata by a final of 11-10.

Evans had a huge afternoon for the Macs ending the day with four goals and three assists for seven points on the afternoon while Long added two goals and Azzarano, Inserra, and Metzger all tallied goals of their own in the setback. Inserra and Azzarano also added a pair of assists each while Long added one assist in the setback.

Between the pipes, Denton States worked hard once again making 18 big saves on the heels of his career outing on Wednesday evening to begin his 2020 senior season.
Hood ended the game with a 33-22 edge in ground balls while also winning 14 of 23 face-offs in the victory over Immaculata.

Immaculata will return to action on Thursday afternoon at Albright with that contest set to begin at 4 p.m.
