NEWARK, NJ- Men's volleyball fell 3-0 to sixth-ranked Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday evening in conference play. The undefeated Scarlet Raiders (10-0, 3-0) won the sets by scores of 25-13, 25-12, 25-12.
The Mighty Macs (2-6,1-3) battled in the first set and trailed 7-5 following a pair of Rutgers-Newark service errors. Garrett Pepper registered a kill to make it 12-8 in favor of the home team when the Scarlet Raiders took control with a 7-1 spurt. Rutgers-Newark had its highest hitting percentage in the first set and set the tone with nine kills on a .600 hitting percentage.
In the second set, Immaculata trailed 5-0, but used a kill by RJ Ubowski to tie the second set at six in the early goings. The Scarlet Raiders took control with a 9-2 run and took a 2-0 lead with another commanding set win.
Despite a .375 hitting percentage in the third set, the Mighty Macs dropped the third set 25-12 in parts to being limited to only eight attacks in the set.
Bryce Wiltbank led the team with three kills while John Bohrer had two kills and one ace. Pepper had six assists as Donte Ramos picked up three assists in the setback.
Kyle Loesner had a match-high 12 kills for Rutgers-Newark while Arvind Kumar chipped in with eight kills.
Immaculata now has an eight day layoff until it faces Eastern at home on February 26th at 7 p.m.
